This Bride Designed Her Own Wedding Dress, and the Result Will Take Your Breath Away

Designing your own wedding dress is no easy feat, but Lizzie Fortunato and her friends crafted a one-of-a-kind gown. Lizzie, who cofounded her namesake accessories line, married Peter Asbill at The Dutchess, a charming countryside spot in upstate New York. The bride said her "I dos" in a hand-embroidered dress with a billowy hemline.

"It was [a] bullion-stitched triangle pattern in metallic pink, gold and blue," said Lizzie to Vogue. "I wanted a distinct waistline, and I planned for the embroidery to be done only on the bodice."

Lizzie's friend Hui Zhang then went the extra step to hand-sew the extra squares of embroidery to the bride's skirt so the pattern continued down her dress and faded away. For finishing touches, Lizzie wore Sophia Webster shoes and a pair of 18k gold and moonstone geometric column earrings that matched the pattern on her dress. The bride carried a delicate bouquet of calla lilies down the aisle and suffice it to say, looked one in a million. Read on to see some snaps from Lizzie's wedding, including her special dress.
