Jessica Chastain Refused to Wear Marchesa, So Harvey Weinstein Publicly Taunted Her

Georgina Chapman is one of the designers of Marchesa, a successful fashion house known to dress Hollywood's A-listers for red carpet events. She is also Harvey Weinstein's wife. The two married in 2007, and amid the sexual-assault allegations against Harvey, Georgina announced she left her husband.

In case you weren't familiar with her or the label, Georgina first launched Marchesa in 2004 with Keren Craig. The first celebrity to wear Marchesa on the red carpet was Renée Zellweger, who rocked a red strapless dress to the 2004 premiere of Bridget Jones's Diary. (FYI, the movie was backed by Miramax - a company Harvey cofounded with his brother Bob Weinstein.) Harvey also said to Vogue in 2013 that he "helped, but just very, very little" with the decision to dress Renée in Marchesa.

A statement from Felicity Huffman, however, revealed Harvey did more than just "a little" to help the Marchesa brand grow. He reportedly threatened Felicity's career if she didn't wear his wife's brand on the red carpet. According to Too Fab, Harvey told Felicity he'd stop financially supporting the star's 2005 Transamerica film. Felicity confirmed the remarks with a simple "Yeah, it's true," response.

She wasn't the first to be bullied by Harvey, though. Jessica Chastain admitted she too was pressured to wear Marchesa to one of her premieres of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, but refused to comply and wore a blue Atelier Versace gown instead. Later, Harvey publicly taunted her. "He actually told the audience, 'If I had to get in a boxing ring with Muhammad Ali or Jessica Chastain, I would choose Muhammad Ali,'" she said in an interview.

With these troubling pieces of information, only time will tell if Georgina and her brand can weather this storm. Read on to see who else has worn Marchesa on the red carpet.
